Shaving Kit #1 - 'The Old Faithful'
Shaving Kit #1 - 'The Old Faithful'
For a good, cleansing wet shave you always need the shaving trinity: a brush, some soap and a blade.
In the Old Faithful we begin with the brush. A good shaving brush stimulates the hair and lubricates the skin. Traditionally, badger-hair was used for the bristles of a shaving brush so for the Old Faithful we have gone for the Nom Gustav. The Gustav’s practical design includes sturdy bristles that can penetrate beneath even the heaviest stubble. This ensures that every part of the skin is well lubricated and the facial hair is softened before the shave. A Synthetic alternative of equal quality and design is also available.
The second part of the shaving trinity is the soap. Shaving soaps come in all shapes and sizes and are often referred to as creams. The soap’s job is to cleanse, soften and
moisturise the skin. The experienced wet-shaver will soon decide which soap is best for their own skin, but for Old Faithful we have included our customers’ choice, the Clubman Pinault. Its devotees swear by it and it’s a sustainable choice whatever your budget (rrp £7.50).
The final part of the shaving trinity is the razor. The razor has 2 elements: the holder the rig and the blade. For the beginner, (and indeed, most wet-shavers) a double-edged safety razor is the preferred option. For the Old Faithful we have selected the Morgans Razor, both for the quality of its materials and its design. It’s made with stainless steel and is easily assembled. Its intuitive (robust - simple) locking mechanism holds the blade firmly in place for shaving, yet allows easy removal for cleaning. All of our wet-shaving kits contain 5-piece box of double-edged blades.
